Seating chart generator
Arrange classroom desks or wedding tables in this browser. Names stay on this page unless you download or save them.
Names stay in this browser unless you download or save them. Saving here is not encrypted. A shared browser can still open a saved roster. The page address is not used for names, rules, or the seed.
Save in this browser only if you want the names to remain after you close the tab. The save is not encrypted. Deleting it removes the browser copy and leaves files you already downloaded.
Roster, 0 of 200
CSV replaces the roster. Existing rules stay and must refer to the imported IDs; correct or remove affected rules before importing.
Rules, 0 of 40
Front of room
0 of 0 assigned. Seed 1.
This chart is not ready to print. Finish a valid arrangement first.
What the solver will and will not do
Hard rules win. A lock, a keep-apart pair, a wedding keep-together group, and the number of seats are checked before a chart can be exported. A soft preference, such as the front of the room or a favored table, is tried first and reported when it is missed.
Classroom seats are numbered from the front, left to right. Keep-apart defaults to the seats immediately left and right. Front-and-back, diagonal, and every touching seat are separate choices. Wedding tables have names and capacities. The drawing is a schematic, not a floor plan or a fire-code check.
The search is seeded and stops after about two seconds. Cancel leaves the roster as you left it. A cancelled or timed-out search cannot be exported as a finished chart. Local saving is a separate button. It is not encrypted, and a shared browser can still show the names later.
Helpful guides
Classroom keep-apart rules and a 24-seat room
Left/right in the same row is the default adjacency. A conflict is reported before a chart is treated as valid.
Wedding tables and keep-together groups
Tables of 4, 3, 3, and 2 seats hold 12 people. A group of 3 does not fit a table of 2.
Seating locks, capacity, and search limits
Five people and four seats is a capacity conflict. A search timeout is not proof that no arrangement exists.
Common questions
Do names get uploaded?
The chart is built in this browser. Names are not placed in the page address, and this page does not send the roster to a remote solver. A downloaded file still contains the names you typed.
Can I keep people together or apart?
Yes. Wedding keep-together means the same table. Classroom keep-apart uses the adjacency you select, and the default is left and right in the same row. A rule that cannot fit is reported before a chart is marked ready.
Why was no chart produced?
Some conflicts are proven first, such as too few seats or two locks on one seat. If the search stops at its time limit, that only means no layout was found in time. It does not prove that none exists.
Will the same names always land in the same seats?
The same roster, rules, and seed produce the same chart from this version of the solver. There is no claim that every valid chart is equally likely, or that the chart is the best possible one.
Can I edit without dragging?
Yes. The list has a place menu for every person, and those controls work from the keyboard. Undo covers roster edits, rules, and moves.
Can I save this on the computer?
You can save a project file in this browser or download one. Browser storage is not encrypted, and anyone using this browser profile can open it. If the browser blocks storage or runs out of room, the page says the save failed and leaves the open chart in place. Delete the saved copy when you are done. That deletes the browser entry and leaves files you already downloaded. The public chart leaves out private ids and rules. The organizer CSV and the project file do not.
